B-Side Bloom · Vol. 2 · DJing
The music
Many say the DJ came first. Before anyone rhymed or spun on their head, somebody had to play the record. This is where the sound came from: Jamaican sound systems, a back-to-school party, two copies of the same record, and the kids who turned a turntable into an instrument.
Make your character. It shows up on every street →Liner notes
Most of this volume comes from my notes on The Source MB: Hip-Hop History, a program by Unity Charity facilitated by Genie Bafoe. I don't DJ, so this is me listening in. It leans on Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell, Grandmaster Flash, Grand Wizzard Theodore, Grand Mixer DXT, and The City of Hip-Hop by Rob Swift and Rasul A. Mowatt. I checked what I could afterwards. Any mistakes are mine.
